Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters has chosen Reece Walsh ahead of James Tedesco at fullback for Australia's Rugby League World Cup opener. Walters explained his reasoning for leaving Tedesco out, with reports connecting Tedesco's NRL grand final performance to the call.

The decision has drawn attention across the rugby league community, given Tedesco's standing as one of the game's premier fullbacks. It is among the most talked-about selections heading into the tournament.

Jack Preston was also included in the side, earning his debut. Preston's inclusion gives Walters more options as Australia gets set for the World Cup campaign.
