Zohran Mamdani attended the 9/11 commemoration in New York. Rudy Giuliani had said he should not attend. The brother of a Muslim police officer killed in the attacks said he was troubled by those calls. Mamdani appeared next to Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. He refused to remain absent.

In a separate matter, his administration started a free childcare programme for two-year-olds. The rollout met high demand and glitches. Mamdani also commented on the city not sharing early information about toxic air after the 9/11 attacks.
