A Sydney woman named Carolyn has become the first person in Australia buried in a coffin grown from mushrooms. The Guardian and the Sydney Morning Herald shared the story on September 7.
The coffin is built from mycelium, the underlying network of fungi. It decomposes quickly and returns nutrients to the soil. People in the funeral industry say that more Australians are now seeking greener funeral options, outside of standard graves or cremation arrangements.
